BENEFIT HELPED
FRIENDSHIP CENTER BUILDING FUND
On Sunday, April 9, 2006, at the Red Lion Colonial Inn, the Lost & Foundation raised over $7,000 for the Friendship Center Building Fund.
The Friendship Center is the only shelter in the Helena tri-county area that provides a safe haven at no charge for families in crisis. Women, men and children who have suffered domestic violence, sexual abuse or other domestic trauma are able to receive shelter, food, guidance and care when it's most needed. For years, the Center has used two century-old homes with inadequate facilities. The current houses present safety and health hazards for staff and clients. Still, the demand for services keeps rising. This past year the Friendship Center saw an increase of 41% over the previous year. Services included: 3,765 nights of safe shelter, 1,232 crisis 24-hour hotline calls, 1,061 in-person counseling sessions and 220 people protected with legal orders.
The solution is taking shape in a new 10,000-square-foot, 12-bedroom facility. This is be an energy-efficient, low maintenance, and safe shelter for women and children. Construction is nearly complete. Check out www.thefriendshipcenter.org to see how it's going!
